The Power Of Dogs

We filmed a series of videos at The Power Of Dogs event, staged in Cheshire by the UK-based organisation Dogs For Good.

Dogs for Good is a UK charity that brings dogs and people with disabilities together to help overcome specific challenges and enrich and improve the lives of both.

The Power of Dogs concept was launched to bring together dog lover, experts, key opinion leaders and dog behaviour expert to look at the whole subject of what dogs can mean to us in every walk of life.

We attended the event held at Adlington Hall, in Cheshire and filmed interviews with each of the presenters as well as Dogs for Good CEO, Peter Gorbing who hosts each of The Power of Dogs events and carried out the video interviews.

The events also to provide an interesting insight, from different viewpoints, into all that canine companions bring to the lives of humans.

One of our interviews featured the dog photographer, Andy Biggar, who shoots amazing images of dogs and their owners and is an ardent supporter of Dogs for Good.

Andy shared a series of his most popular photographs and also gave the audience a fascinating insight into how he stages sessions with dogs and they owners as well as some handy tips on getting your dog to pose in the most natural way.

Here are some of Andy’s photographs

We Bust Records Again In 2019

2019 is going to be another record breaker for Good Call Media.

Despite the uncertainty brought on by Brexit, we have expanded our client base and our international work this year, which is already the most successful in our 12 year history!

Apologies for our lack of news stories recently, it’s been due to the severe workloads that we have faced in  the Autumn period – we are not complaining, we love being busy and winning new clients but we also love working with our long standing clients, many of whom have become personal friends.

Our work with one new (to us) business, the innovative and family-owned super berry company the Hall Hunter Partnership (HHP) has blossomed (excuse the pun), thanks to the success of a series of videos that we have produced for HHP including a brand new overview video that is going ‘live’ very soon; recruitment videos in different languages and video reports highlighting the company’s fantastic work in the community, especially HHP’s hugely popular Open Farm Sunday.

HHP grow and sell strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries for some of the UK’s leading brands including Waitrose and Sainsbury’s so it’s great to be associated with them.

We have continued to develop our long standing relationship with the Insider Group (see previous news story on the Props Awards). This work has included videos for the Made in the UK, Made in the Midlands and Made in Sheffield awards, which highlight the very best of manufacturing in the UK…we love making films about such positive subjects and inspirational people in business.

We have also landed new work with an amazing project in Sheffield – the AWRC or the Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre which has just been completed.

Following a £14m investment from the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care and the European  Regional Development Fund, the AWRC provides world class research and design capability through state-of-the-art, fully instrumented indoor and outdoor laboratories and access to academic expertise across health, engineering, robotics, software design, psychology, design, and the arts and we are going to be working with them on highlighting their groundbreaking work.

Our international profile has also grown beyond our wildest dreams. In the past this has largely been connected with work carried out in 55 different countries for the worldwide veterinary health company, Ceva Santé Animale, but in 2019 we also crossed borders for other clients including the fast growing cancer detection company Volition RX which is quoted on the New York Stock Exchange.

For Ceva, we will be hosting and filming for the 2020 Global Welfare Awards, which they support with the World Veterinary Association. This means embarking on an intense period of international travel as we make films in five different continents, highlighting the work of the Awards winners. The Awards themselves are being staged in Auckland, New Zealand in April 2020 and our own Nik Wood hosts the event on stage. This year it will be included in the opening ceremony for the Convention and the audience is expected to be over one thousand strong.

And it’s just been announced that we have also won the contract to film for Ceva’s prestigious UK Welfare Awards in 2020, which is a hugely popular event staged in the Midlands of the UK featuring a series of wonderful stories of individuals and groups who go above and beyond when it comes to supporting animal health in the UK and internationally.

So thanks to you all for a brilliant 2019 and we look forward to 2020.

Filming For Insider

Filming is about to begin for the 2019 Yorkshire Property Industry Awards organised by the Insider Group.

“Good Call Media has been nominated media partners for the event for the 7th year running, so we must be doing something right,” said GCM Co-owner, Nik Wood. Hundreds of representatives from the businesses that are shaping the built environment around us will attend the black-tie event, showcasing the best of the Yorkshire property industry.

The  event is being held on the evening of 19 September at the New Dock Hall in Leeds.

Over the last 12 months, interest in Yorkshire has blossomed, despite concerns over the Brexit effect, and a number of innovative and creative projects have launched since the 2018 awards and Insider wants to showcase those that are a cut above.

The organisers have introduced some new categories for this year’s event. The two new awards will celebrate achievements in new property-related technology and collaborations between local authorities and private enterprise.

Good Call Media will be interviewing people from the region’s property industry to highlight the trends over the last 12 months and celebrating the lessons that are being learned in a tough marketplace. The award winner, Aimée Lieberum, is a student at the University of Leipzig Veterinary Faculty and developed an interest in animal welfare at a young age when she carried out voluntary work and fundraising for animal shelters near her home

Aimée is an active member of the BVVD, which is the German national student association and is the head of their animal welfare group, where she organises regular discussion workshops on animal welfare with her fellow students.

She also actively promoted the 2nd IVSA Animal Welfare Conference jointly with the 4th BVVD Annual Animal Welfare Seminar. She was one of the main coordinators and organised the conference with the help of a small team of veterinary students. The conference was attended by 120 students; national and international.

Speaking about her award, she said: “It’s sometimes quite hard to be taken seriously as students so I thinkthis award is very important because it shows that vets really do acknowledge what I do and what we do as students on the subject of animal welfare and I really think this will make a difference in the future.”

Our filming for the Awards took Good Call Media to five continents in just two months and we also helped to host the Awards, held at the WVA’s 35th Annual Congress in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Beautiful New Zealand Our Latest Location

We had no problems accepting our latest assignment – filming in the beautiful North Island of New Zealand.

The subject is a series of films promoting the 2020 World Veterinary Association Congress which will be held in Auckland, New Zealand in April 2020. The event will also feature the Global Welfare Awards, sponsored by our client, Ceva Animal Health, which we support, film and host on stage.

This year we are producing a series of short video trailers for social media and the WVA website promoting both the main Congress and the Welfare Awards. The videos will run on a regular basis throughout the Autumn of 2019 and early in 2020.

These trailers have been shown to generate increased interest in  events and they also encourage delegates to register earlier. The 2020 World Veterinary Association Congress will be held 6-8 April, 2020 in Auckland, New Zealand. It will be the 36th edition of the Association’s Congress and will be hosted in conjunction with the highly successful NZVA Annual Conference.

The World Veterinary Association Congress (WVAC) 2020 will bring veterinarians from all over the world to Auckland to share ideas, learn and to have fun. The congress will explore and seek solutions to some of the biggest animal health and welfare challenges   facing all species in the fast changing world in which we live today.

The WVAC 2020 programme will focus primarily on clinical veterinary medicine, veterinary public health, animal welfare and academic research across all domestic species.  Other topics to be covered include companion animal nursing, large animal veterinary technicians and equine veterinary nursing.

Speakers from around the world will discuss topical issues such as advances in veterinary medicine, and will explore new horizons in the treatment and prevention of animal disease. The congress will incorporate the Global One Heath Summit, which will showcase speakers from international organisations including the OIE, FAO and WHO. It will also include what promises to be an inspiring and enlightening Global Seminar on Animal Welfare.

Auckland’s excellent conference facilities and outstanding restaurants and bars will ensure the social aspects of the conference do not disappoint.

Colombia Filming For Awards

Remote Filming Assignment In Manitoba, Canada

The latest winner of the 2019 World Veterinary Association Global Animal Welfare Awards is:
DR. JONAS WATSON – CANADA

See our video report by Clicking Here

When he is not working at his job at the Tuxedo Animal Health Clinic in Winnipeg, Canada, Dr. Jonas Watson can be found treating animals in remote indigenous communities in northern Canada and particularly in Manitoba, both regions of which are under-served by mainstream veterinary services. The programmes he supports operate alongside non-profit organisations such as the Save A Dog Network and often involve packing up veterinary equipment and supplies into small aircraft to fly into the communities where there is no access by road.

Dr Watson (left) receives his award in Costa Rica

He took part in the ‘Mad Dog’ initiative in Madagascar which was aimed at reducing the problem of stray dogs and cats that threaten the wildlife population of the country but while he was there, he also organised training for local vets to improve their veterinary skills.

Dr. Watson is the current President of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association, a member of the CVMA Emerging Leaders Program and sits on several boards including the Canadian Animal Blood Bank and is vice- chair of the Winnipeg Humane Society.

He said: “It’s become a passion of mine to bring veterinary services to communities all over northern Canada, Manitoba and other parts of the world. People love their pets and it’s not that they need to learn more about veterinary services, it’s just that they need access to it.”

We flew out to join Dr. Watson when he travelled with the SaveADog Network in Manitoba to hold a day-long clinic at the Peguis First National community where scores of people turned up with their dogs and cats to receive various treatments as well as a diagnosis from the veterinary team. The WVA Awards were held at the Association’s 35th Annual Congress in San Jose, Costa Rica. Good Call Media’s Co-owner, Nik Wood was on stage to act as host for the event.

The Gamechangers – Thorpe Park

In the final of our property-based series of videos called The Gamechangers, we highlight the huge Thorpe Park project on the outskirts of Leeds in Yorkshire.

We filmed at the project as part of our growing portfolio in the property sector (see video below). The video was part of the Yorkshire Property Awards staged by Variety the Children’s Charity. It was shown to over a thousand property professionals at the prestigious event.

To the south of the East Leeds Extension, adjoining Junction 46 of the M1, Thorpe Park is, a well-established prime business park with a working population of around 4,500 people in 40 buildings and a high quality hotel, spa and conference centre.

The development is seen as a major opportunity for employment growth in the region, with the first of a new standard of office buildings completed in November 2016.The next stage of the Thorpe Park Leeds development will provide an additional 125,875 sq. metres of office, shopping and leisure space and 300 new homes to create one of the largest and most diverse out of town business locations in the UK.

Work is now well underway on the Manston Lane Link Road (MLLR) which will connect the East Leeds Extension to Thorpe Park via a new bridge over the Leeds-York rail line and provide a connection from the M1 to the East Leeds Orbital Road. The MLLR is expected to enable the opening of the new retail and leisure developments. New areas for development are expected to be opened up as the project continues in future years.

The 275 acre estate will comprise a mix of business and supporting amenity uses, including 140 acres of parkland and public realm with sports facilities, in a prominent strategic and well connected location.

Scarborough Group, the developer of Thorpe Park Leeds, joined forces with Legal and General in August 2015 to deliver the project – a commitment of some £162m. Legal and General is one of the UK’s most active institutional property investors.
